Alberta Investment Management Corporation (AIMCo) achieved 5/5 stars on more than half of the mandatory modules and outperformed the peer median on 6 out 10 modules for its overall approach to responsible investment in the 2022 Principles for Responsible Investment (PRI) survey. As a PRI signatory, AIMCo is assessed annually on its environmental, social and governance (ESG) integration and performance relative to peers.
AIMCo’s outperformance among the various asset classes continues to be driven by efforts to integrate systemic risks, like climate change and human rights. Strong performance is also due to mature processes around integrating material ESG considerations in the investment decision making process, as well as reporting and stewardship activities.
Our direct infrastructure investments demonstrated the biggest improvement from last year, now earning a five-star rating and performing at peer median. This progress can be attributed to enhanced management of ESG factors post-investment, such as through formal value creation plans for certain assets.
The PRI reporting process requires the collaboration of dozens of team members who compile detailed inputs, explanations and evidence to create AIMCo’s PRI Transparency Report.
